The South Ogden City Council voted Aug. 4 to adopt Resolution 26-21, approving the city’s FY2027 final budget that incorporates a proposed 10.30% increase to the South Ogden portion of property taxes. The council took the vote after a Truth in Taxation public hearing and a brief budget hearing; the roll-call recorded "Yes" votes from Council members Howard, Smythe, Stevens, Howe and Peterson.
Peter Andrew, the city’s financial director, told the council the budget is built on a proposed 10.30% increase and estimated the incremental revenue at about $476,331 if collections occur as projected. "Right now, our budget is built on a proposed tax increase of 10.30%," Andrew said during his presentation, and he noted the council had adopted that rate as a maximum earlier in June as part of the Truth in Taxation process. City leaders said the budget documents and an impact schedule were available on the city website and had been publicly noticed in accordance with the statute cited during the hearing.
The council discussion before the vote emphasized that department heads and staff had scrutinized line items and that the budget is "lean," with officials warning that cutting personnel would reduce services. After approving the resolution, the council adjourned the meeting.
