City manager and police warn of planned park takeover; extra staffing to be deployed

City Manager Charles Daniels briefed council on the Forney Police Department's inaugural junior police academy for students entering 8th and 9th grade and said staff hopes to continue the program next summer.
Chief White used the public forum to relay intelligence that a "planned Forney Community Park takeover" was expected on Saturday, Aug. 7, and said the police department would not allow a takeover and would deploy extra staffing to ensure the park remains open for legitimate public use. Chief White encouraged lawful use of city parks and said the department would take measures to prevent a takeover while still allowing legitimate events.
