Science and math team credits graphing-literacy work for stronger Regents performance

Mrs. Martell presented the Science and Math Departments' multi-cycle approach to improving students' ability to interpret and analyze graphs on Regents exams, describing a three-cycle plan that focused first on graphing vocabulary and parameters and then on text analysis with Social Studies and English collaboration.
She told the Board the 2023–24 Regents results for math and science (June exams) showed higher-level work from Barker students and that local graders from Royalton-Hartland commented on the improvement. Mrs. Martell said teachers saw a marked improvement on Regents graphing questions after Cycle One and Cycle Two interventions and that Cycle Three will emphasize text-analysis strategies to help students capture all scoring points on multi-part questions. The administration noted they will analyze this year’s Regents results after exams conclude.
