Selectboard votes unanimously to enter executive session on legal advice, contracts and personnel
Summary
On a pair of motions during the Aug. 4 meeting the Shelburne Selectboard voted 5-0 first to find that public disclosure would disadvantage the board under 1 VSA 313 and then to enter executive session to discuss attorney/client communications, contracts and employment matters, inviting the Town Manager and Town Attorney.
Member Chunka Mui moved, and Member Mike Ashooh seconded, that premature public knowledge of attorney/client communications and contract discussions would put the Selectboard at a substantial disadvantage; the motion cited statutory authority under 1 V.S.A. § 313(a)(1)(F) and 1 V.S.A. § 313(a)(1)(A). The board voted 5-0 in favor of that finding.
Mui then moved, and Luce Hillman seconded, that the board enter executive session to discuss the attorney/client communications described in the prior motion, to discuss contracts and to discuss employment or evaluation of an employee under the cited statutes, and to invite Town Manager Matt Lawless and Town Attorney Kristen Shamis to attend. That motion also passed 5-0. The meeting minutes record that the board then adjourned; no further public detail about the executive session was recorded in the minutes.
