Residents press board on reserves, audit committee membership, regionalization and roofs during public comment

During two Guest Recognition periods, several residents addressed the board with questions and comments about district finances, governance and facilities. Deb Spratt urged greater transparency on reserves and asked whether the audit committee could include community members; the district replied the committee has historically been the full BOE but that membership could be reviewed at the July reorganization meeting. Spratt and others said public trust needs rebuilding, and the board committed to providing requested answers in the coming weeks.

Mike Garrett and Patrick Climie pressed for dates and dollar amounts related to the district’s Corrective Action Plan and reserves. The district said the final CAP was submitted to the Comptroller’s Office and is posted to the website, and that staff would work to provide more detailed answers before the next BOE meeting. Climie asked specifically about the roofs, prompting a staff table that listed replacement years and warranty terms for MS/HS roof segments; the district said warranties generally ranged from 15 to 30 years and that it was not aware of district work that would have voided coverage.

Other public questions covered why a holiday singalong was changed to caroling (a building‑level decision), whether community members could be added to the audit committee sooner than July (board said membership is governed by policy and law), and whether the district would pilot switching student devices from Chromebooks to Microsoft‑based devices (Pacatte said the idea is under consideration, with any pilot delayed until the next academic year). The district pledged to provide written responses and post materials on the district website.
