MCOE explores partnerships for employee housing and tiny-home transitional options

"Becoming landlords or land developers is quite a lot to take on," the superintendent said, explaining the county office is researching options rather than undertaking direct development. Staff described work with the CSBA interactive map to identify county land, outreach to Mendocino College and to Bridal Communities Housing Development Corporation, and meetings with the county CFO and planning staff to understand potential land availability. Fort Bragg Unified’s interest in placing tiny homes for transitional employee housing was discussed as one local example; staff emphasized the need to protect school program space and to preserve district flexibility.
Board members suggested models such as co-housing or partnering with housing authorities and recommended careful vetting of tax-credit eligibility and public-funding constraints. The superintendent said staff will continue exploring partnerships and will return with more information before any formal commitments are made.
