Dr. Cole Bell briefed the board on several external grants and program pilots. He said the county received a 21st CCLC grant for $57,475 to pilot a teachers’ community of practice centered in Willits to support early-career teachers, and a juvenile-justice department grant of up to $49,999 to support the SNAP PAC program serving homeless and foster youth; staff reported SNAP PAC is currently serving 214 students per week.
Bell also congratulated Jennifer McAuley for acceptance to the Heart Centered Connections training and said staff are exploring a tuition-free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program with an external funder and Mendocino College to avoid duplicating existing programs. He invited board members to an adult-ed graduation ceremony on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.
Board members asked clarifying questions about program timing and scope; staff said the CNA program remains exploratory and that follow-up details, including how the grant dollars will be used, will come back to the board as plans firm up.
