Vernon County health department runs tabletop exercise; warns of expected PHEP/HERC funding cuts

The Vernon County Health Department reported Aug. 13 that it conducted a tabletop preparedness exercise with the Fair Board and Emergency Management that addressed a missing-child scenario and an active-shooter/shooting event to test coordination and response protocols.
Staff said Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) budgets were submitted for BP2 (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026) and warned that HERC (Health Care Emergency Readiness Coalition) funding is likely to be reduced by approximately the same percentage as expected PHEP cuts. The department introduced a new Health Care Emergency Preparedness dashboard intended to help track preparedness activities.
