The Vernon County Board of Health approved the coroner’s proposed 2026 budget following an August coroner’s report presented at the Sept. 17 meeting. Coroner Betty Nigh reported 19 deaths for August — including 10 cremations and 8 burials — and said monthly income was $1,570.00 with expenses of $555.82. A motion to approve the 2026 coroner budget was made by Sherrie Seidel and seconded by David Eggen; the motion carried with all ayes.
The board also reviewed and approved the minutes from the August 2025 meeting (motion by Frank Easterday, second by Martha Olson; all ayes). Those actions were recorded during a meeting convened at 1:00 PM in the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department Training Room with Teams access for remote participants.
