Public health staff informed the Vernon County Board of Health Aug. 13 that Wisconsin had recorded nine measles cases at the time of the meeting and that those cases were isolated to Oconto County. Department staff said they had reviewed the testing process with local providers to ensure suspected cases are identified and managed appropriately.
Board members were also told that Vernon County’s childhood MMR vaccination rates are lower than the state average, a factor staff flagged as a local vulnerability for measles spread. In addition, the department reported the first confirmed human West Nile Virus case in Wisconsin for the year, prompting continued surveillance and public education efforts.
Public Health Nurse Ashley Schlicht and colleagues gave the update and outlined recommended testing steps for providers; the board did not vote on any new measures at this meeting, but staff emphasized ongoing monitoring and provider coordination.
