Project lead Ray Green told trustees that the original report encountered hard rock at 32 feet in the borings but one hole showed soil subject to liquefaction between 5 and 6.5 feet. He said CGS “has prescribed that we drill 66 feet” with a specialized rig and that the contractor expects to produce a final report within three to five days after borings are completed.
Ray described the options if testing confirms a wider problem: mitigation could require redesigning foundations or moving the building footprint, both of which would add cost. Ray and staff emphasized they chose a geotechnical firm with local experience; the board approved the additional service and staff said drilling is scheduled for the 19th, with CGS and DSA review timelines still controlling the overall schedule.
Board action: motion to approve additional services for Crawford Associates, Inc., passed unanimously.
