Oconto County sees rising transit ridership; county approved minivan purchase awaiting delivery

Deputy Human Services Director Brandon Daul told the council that transit ridership in Oconto County rose from roughly 1,300 rides in 2024 to about 2,500 rides in 2025, and that the program averaged 825 rides in the first quarter of 2026 versus a historical quarterly average of 635. Operations transitioned to Menominee Transit in 2025, and the county was recently approved to receive a minivan; staff said delivery could take more than a year based on past experience.
Daul described three service types: an in-town Oconto route (fee $4.00), rotating rural routes that operate five days per week across different regions of Oconto County, and a scheduled Medical Escort Program. Longer-distance trips (for example to Green Bay) carry higher fees. The program is open to the public with a pay-as-you-can option and the council requested a copy of the 2026 fee schedule for review.
