Oconto County Aging Council reports surge in meal deliveries, adds new site in Oconto

Deputy Human Services Director Brandon Daul reported that Oconto County’s Nutrition Program delivered 15,659 in-home and congregate meals in 2025 and has provided more than 2,000 meals so far in 2026. A newly established congregate site at Riverside City Diner & Smokehouse in Oconto currently serves 22 participants, and average daily congregate participation increased 67% from February 2025 to February 2026.
Daul said staff are collecting information to evaluate possible hybrid meal sites and plan to meet with Olivia Cherry at Marinette County Elderly Services to review how similar models are supported there; Apple Jacks Bar & Grill was cited as one identified example. The department is prioritizing areas with higher population density because hybrid sites are more expensive to operate. Chair Brenda Carey-Mielke noted the Town of Mountain recently received 70 boxes through the program; staff said the program has no waiting list and currently shows 10 available slots. Daul said staff are also pursuing partnerships with local farmers to secure fresh-produce donations and may add distribution days to address rising food and fuel costs.
