CDC field team visits Cecil Township for nationwide health study; team says participation is voluntary and exams are free

"Our job is to go across the whole country, and we go to the houses where the CDC has chosen," said Sebastian, who identified himself as a CDC field representative. He described a process in which pre‑mailed letters are sent to selected addresses, field staff conduct a screener at the door to determine eligibility for further study and, for those selected, schedule a free health exam and follow‑up nutrition interview. The team said blood tests are being conducted at a medical facility set up at the Tanger Outlets for those who proceed with the exam.
Staff emphasized the study's long history and public‑health relevance. "This is a nationwide study... it is over 60 years old," a team member said, noting the study helped establish many baseline health metrics used in clinical care. The team said they will remain in the area through September and that participation is voluntary.
