Township staff announced Aug. 3 that Cecil Township was awarded a $71,500 grant to renovate the Generations Room used by senior citizens. The planned renovation includes new flooring, paint, built-in storage, updated furniture and removal of existing banquettes; staff said there is no cost to taxpayers for this project and the work must be completed by Nov. 1.
"Cecil Township, was awarded a $71,500 grant for the update of, the generations room for the senior citizens," staff said in the meeting. Staff noted the center will likely close for about three weeks (Oct. 3 to Nov. 1) while work is underway and that the township is coordinating with the area agency on aging and the fire department to maintain meal access and gathering space for seniors during the renovation.
Why it matters: the grant will fund needed facility improvements without local tax impact and the township has a tight construction schedule to meet grant deadlines; staff will coordinate temporary relocation and meal service during the closure.
