The Cecil Township Board of Supervisors voted on Aug. 3 to adopt Resolution 156‑2026, declaring the township's Unified Development Ordinance substantively invalid as exclusionary of data centers and directing staff to prepare a curative amendment. Township solicitor Gretchen Moore said the declaration creates a 180‑day window "where no applications can be processed or come in" while the administration drafts and publicly advertises a data‑center ordinance.
Moore told the board the step is procedural: "So that's the process that they are talking or considering voting on right now" and it will give planners breathing room to complete public hearings and revisions. The motion to adopt the resolution was made, seconded and carried unanimously. The board said future public hearings will be scheduled once a proposed ordinance is available for consideration.
