Windsor Locks Board Approves 2026-27 School Calendar Aligned with Neighbors

The Windsor Locks Board of Education unanimously approved the district's 2026-27 school calendar on Oct. 23, 2025 after Superintendent Shawn Parkhurst reviewed the recommendation created with WLTA President Matt Sigall and district leaders.
Superintendent Shawn Parkhurst told the board the recommended calendar was developed in collaboration with staff and the union. "The highlights of the changes were reviewed which included mirroring the start and vacation times of neighboring districts, continuing the practice of having graduation on a Friday, additional time for staff to meet 3 times a year for 1 hour after school PLC meetings whereby students are dismissed at their regular time, and early release days for WLHS on mid-term and final exam days," Parkhurst said in the meeting minutes. Board member Lindsay Cutler moved to approve the calendars as presented; Alba Osorio seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Board members said aligning the calendar with nearby districts and preserving Friday graduation were priorities for families and staff. The calendar also formalizes three one-hour after-school professional learning community (PLC) meetings and sets early-release protocols at Windsor Locks High School on mid-term and final exam days. The change aims to balance instructional time with structured staff collaboration.
The board will publish the approved calendar and district staff said they will notify families about the PLC dates and the early-release schedule ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
