The Douglas County Land & Water Conservation Committee approved a resolution asking the Wisconsin Counties Association to lobby the state legislature and governor for greater local control over land use and zoning. Committee member Lee Sandok Baker moved to approve the measure with amendments explicitly naming large-scale wind and solar, data centers and concentrated animal feeding operations; Wendy Bong seconded the motion, which the committee carried unanimously and then referred to the Zoning Committee for follow-up.
The resolution responds to a request from Wood County and would ask the statewide association to advocate for authority changes at the state level. Committee members said the amendments were intended to make clear the scope of local concerns; the committee took no final legislative action itself and sent the resolution to the Zoning Committee for additional consideration.
