Students join Rolla City Council meeting to mark City Government Week

Mayor Kevin Juntunen opened a special Rolla City Council meeting at Mount Pleasant School at 1:00 p.m. and invited students, faculty, parents and community members to observe local government at work as part of City Government Week. "Your presence reminds us why government matters — not as an abstract idea, but as the practical work of keeping our streets safe, our schools strong, and our community connected," he said.
Two students were recognized as winners of the "If I Were Mayor" essay contest. Third-grade winner Marshal Jeannotte and seventh-grade winner Aria Parslow read their essays to the council and audience and received recognition from council members. The event also included a brief introduction of the attending councilpersons and city staff, providing students a window into the roles elected officials and municipal employees play.
