Public comments press council on ICE detentions, survivor services and employment for people with disabilities

Joliette Cervantes, a master of social work student, proposed a coordinated continuum-of-care model to link hospitals, mental-health providers, victim advocates, law enforcement and community agencies to improve long-term trauma‑informed services for survivors. "Rather than requiring survivors to navigate multiple systems on their own, participating organizations would work together to standardize referral processes, regular communication, and coordinated case management," she said.
Ella Hogg, a rapid response volunteer with El Movimiento, warned that Dallas‑area ICE activity has been high and recounted responding to an ICE abduction in Garland; she said the Dallas field office detains "85 to 100 people a day" and urged council to open a dialogue on protecting neighbors and supporting legal-observer and mutual-aid networks.
David Hogue urged council to work with the all‑abilities committee and city staff to expand employment opportunities and accommodations for people with disabilities in city hiring and to encourage private employers to do likewise.
Council received the comments under the public‑comment portion of the meeting; no council action was taken on these requests at the session.
