Council approves change to Downtown Historic District revitalization grant program

Garland’s City Council replaced the existing resolution for the Downtown Historic District Revitalization Grant program with a narrowed proposal that raises the reimbursement cap to $150,000 and requires at least 25% of project work be dedicated to exterior improvements.
Staff told the council the adjustment was presented at a June 16 work session and that the current proposal removes one portion of the prior plan to focus on two elements: maximizing the reimbursement cap at $150,000 and dedicating 25% of project spending to exterior work. There were no speakers on the item. Councilmember Thomas moved to replace the resolution with the new language; Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dutton seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Staff said the change responds to council direction and asked for support; the council approved the amended resolution without further debate.
