The Columbus City Council voted to dissolve the ADA Compliance Committee after committee members and staff described limited public engagement and overlap with existing committee responsibilities. City Engineer Rick Bogia said the committee—created years earlier to prioritize curb cuts—seldom had public attendance and that similar communities do not always maintain a standing ADA committee.
Bogia said state contacts and peer communities confirmed a specific committee is not a legal requirement for a community of Columbus’s size and that ADA‑related concerns can continue under the public property and safety committee or through staff channels. A council member moved to adopt the committee recommendation and the motion passed by voice vote.
