The Columbus City Council voted to adopt the 2027 pavement management plan and the city’s 1‑and‑6‑year road plan, both of which are used to prioritize street repairs and to qualify for federal and state funding. "The proposed budget has $2,000,000 in it for this purpose," City Engineer Rick Bogia said, explaining that the plan is developed after a budget figure is available and that staff prioritize work based on surface failures, stormwater impacts and subgrade issues.
Bogia described the department’s focus on sections with premature concrete failure dating from the 1980s–1990s and said the list tries to use available budget effectively rather than eliminate all cracks citywide. The 1‑and‑6‑year plan also includes projects tied to subdivision development and will be the subject of a public hearing on Aug. 17, 2026, at 6 p.m., per the committee report.
Council members asked that 18th Avenue (technically Wilderness Road), described by a council member as a major collector in need of reconstruction, be given strong consideration as budget and timing allow. The motions to adopt both plans passed by voice vote.
