Termite damage, HVAC and alarm upgrades push Lindsay Davis senior-center timeline to December

City engineers told the council that unexpected termite damage to roof trusses and additional life-safety needs at the Lindsay Davis Senior Center required contract changes and added scope. "There were termites in the trusses...there was a significant amount of damage done to the trusses," City Engineer Terrence Bailey told the council, and staff recommended truss remediation, replacement of the fire alarm system and replacement of multiple HVAC units.
The council approved several related resolutions and a change order to All Site Construction totaling roughly $304,995 for termite control, truss replacement and HVAC work; Palm Beach County agreed to provide an additional $218,000 in CDBG funds to offset costs. Staff said the long lead time for a 20-ton AC unit (about 16 weeks) pushed the projected reopening to December. Councilwoman Miller Anderson voted no on the package and asked staff to return with procedural clarifications for future change orders.
