Council hears how Riviera Beach avoided a 17% spike in employee premiums

Brenda Jenkins, the city's human-resources director, introduced the benefits consultants from the Garen Group; the consultant said negotiation with Cigna and rate concessions helped avoid roughly $1.4 million in additional costs that would have resulted from a 17% increase.
The consultant said the city pays approximately $8.2 million toward employee premiums and employees cover about $1.6 million. Council members thanked HR and the consultant for their work and approved the resolution by unanimous vote.
