Solid waste report: landfill activity up; recycling tonnage down but revenue rises

Lynch said the collections and hauling report showed about 59 more tons hauled to Smith County compared with last year, while the recycling report was down “about 30 tons over the same time last year,” but recycling revenue rose by about $4,300 “due to an increase in cattle prices” cited by staff.
Lynch also told the board she has placed $485,000 in a new equipment line item and proposed purchasing a roll‑off garbage truck through Sourcewell: “It would be a Peterbilt, and it would be $285,135,” she said, adding the truck was in stock and could be delivered quickly.
The board moved and approved the solid waste report by voice vote. Members asked follow-up questions about hauling, convenience-center pulls (483 loads in July), and the availability of maintenance contractors for heavy equipment.
