Residents ask Wilson County to lower speed limit on Stewarts Ferry Pike; commission votes to gather signatures

Ronnie Boggess, a resident at 3936 Stewart's Ferry Pike, asked the Wilson County Road Commission on Aug. 6 to reduce the speed limit on Stewarts Ferry Pike from 45 mph to 35 mph between Mount Juliet Road and the South Creek Market/Corinth Road area, citing frequent crashes and damaged mailboxes.
"Just basically trying to, see if we could get that speed limit lowered, from 35 from 45 down to 35 on, Stewarts Ferry Pike from Mount Juliette Road, down to the South Creek Market, Corinth Road," Boggess said, and handed the commission a short petition with neighbors' signatures. Commissioners discussed local practice for speed‑limit petitions and noted a common threshold of about 25 affected homes for an area petition.
A commissioner moved to change the posted limit to 35 mph and the board seconded the motion; the commission approved moving forward with gathering the required signatures and asked staff to bring a completed petition back next month and prepare a resolution to send to the county commission. The chair instructed staff to collect the names and said the item would be returned for a formal resolution and any final county action.
