Library Director Jenny Fontenella presented an informational report to council on Aug. 5 describing board‑approved changes to Lodi Public Library hours designed to better align service with community demand and staff schedules. The new schedule restores Friday service (matching Saturday hours), extends evening hours Monday–Wednesday to 7 p.m., and designates Sunday as the closed day. "Overall, the approved schedule increases public service from 43 hours to 47 hours each week," Fontenella said.
Fontenella told council the revision preserves the city's 9/80 staff schedule, uses a four‑week rotation so each librarian covers one Saturday every four weeks, and can be implemented without additional funding. She said the change still requires the city to complete a required meet‑and‑confer process with employee bargaining units; the earliest implementation estimate given at the meeting was within six to eight weeks after meet‑and‑confer confirmation. Council members asked about outreach; Fontenella said staff will run a social media campaign and coordinate with the city PIO.
