Commissioners approve District 1 storage agreement after removing fence-install requirement

Commissioner Josh Powers moved to approve a storage agreement with Henry H. Geiger Jr. and Angela F. Geiger for District 1 materials at a rate of $225 per month for a term not to exceed 12 months. During discussion, Powers said staff had noted the contract referenced a fence and gate and questioned whether the county was renting and whether the contract required construction of fencing.
Commissioner Ryan John said the arrangement was temporary — "it is the last year for this contract" — and explained the county is relocating from an Elgin storage location to Fletcher and had located a truck capable of moving bridge beams, making a large gate unnecessary. Powers moved to approve the agreement with an amendment striking the fence-installation item (approximately 1,200 feet with a swinging gate). The motion was seconded and passed with Powers, John and Chairman Johnny Owens voting aye.
"POWERS SAID THAT STAFF BROUGHT TO HIS ATTENTION THAT THE CONTRACT MENTIONS A FENCE AND GATE," the minutes record. "JOHN SAID IT IS THE LAST YEAR FOR THIS CONTRACT. WE ARE HAVING TO MOVE. WE ARE LOSING OUR ELGIN STORAGE AND MOVING OUR ITEMS TO FLETCHER. JOHN SAID WE FOUND A TRUCK THAT CAN MOVE THE BRIDGE BEAMS AND THEREFORE WE WON'T BE NEEDING A GATE FOR A BIG WIDE ENTRANCE."
