Board member cites Department of Education guidance as constraint on using AI for applicant screening

When an audience member asked whether the district had considered using artificial intelligence to process applications, a board speaker said that topic had not yet come up but should be included in the RFP or partner scope if the board pursues those routes. "I don't think that's come up yet in our conversations, and I think that's definitely something we should add to our list," the speaker said.
Board member Jose Matthews said the district must follow Department of Education guidance on AI and referenced recent work by a DOE "AI Assurance Lab." "There is guidance that we do have to follow, when it comes to AI, utilizing AI," he said, and added that the district would need to coordinate with the Department of Education before adopting AI tools.
