The Red Clay Consolidated School District held a town hall to discuss how it will choose a new superintendent, presenting three formal options: appoint a candidate directly, pick a search partner without a public RFP, or run a public request for proposals (RFP) to select a search firm. Moderator and district communications officer Alva Mobley framed the meeting as a conversation about process rather than endorsement of any candidate.
Board members told attendees the district plans multiple engagement steps—including surveys, focus groups and recorded town halls—to surface community priorities and evaluate finalists. "There would be a survey, focus groups, or something about really wanting to hear from the community," a board representative said, describing how those inputs would shape the leadership profile. The group stressed that the precise evaluation mechanics depend on which option the board adopts.
Supporters and skeptics in the audience debated tradeoffs. Proponents of an RFP or partner said outside firms bring capacity, neutral review and experience designing large searches; supporters of a direct appointment urged the board can still conduct a transparent, community-centered process internally. The board said posted materials and a dedicated superintendent-search webpage will document each step and that survey and town-hall results will be compiled in a public report.
