Highway superintendent reports $1,000 used plow purchase, truck strategy and grant pursuit for salt shed

Highway Superintendent Mike Cole updated the board on equipment and procurement. Cole said he purchased a used plow for $1,000 and observed a new plow would cost approximately $8,000. He recommended buying a truck chassis this year and procuring the dump/box separately because of a current 14-month lead time for complete trucks.
Cole also said he is looking into a county grant to fund a salt shed. At the meeting Town Attorney Kirsten Dunn introduced a proposed Local Law (No. 3 of 2026) to establish the position of Deputy Highway Superintendent; that measure will be reviewed and voted on at the next meeting.
The board did not take final action on the deputy superintendent law at this meeting but heard the introduced proposal and discussed procurement strategy to manage long lead times for heavy equipment.
