Roanoke County supervisors weigh whether to comment to FERC on proposed MVP compressor station

Supervisors heard from residents and discussed whether the county should respond to federal proceedings on a proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) compressor station sited near Bent Mountain.
Supervisor Radford (speaker 14) said he met with a group called Preserve Bent Mountain and described residents' concerns about noise, air quality and the proximity of alternate sites. He said Montgomery County and Craig County had already passed resolutions opposing the project at the federal level and that those counties received a detailed response from MVP. "Site 3 is squarely in Roanoke County’s jurisdiction," he said, and asked staff to research the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission docket and advise the board on whether to submit comments or pursue a resolution.
County staff (speaker 7) offered to gather docket information, coordinate site visits to existing compressor stations and prepare background for a possible work session. Several supervisors asked for more detailed information on proximity to residents, noise and air impacts before drafting any formal correspondence to FERC.
