Board approves $62,880 supplement for US 52 water-main and sanitary sewer design

Public Works Director Noriega told trustees that during design-due-diligence for the US 52 water main and sanitary sewer extension the team discovered two pipelines conflicting with the planned 30-inch sanitary sewer. Noriega said lowering the sanitary along the full length of the affected run was the most cost-effective solution and recommended Supplement No. 1 with Seibel for additional design services not to exceed $62,880, bringing the total contract to $158,867. Trustees asked technical questions about elevation requirements, planning for a potential lift station, and timing relative to permitting and the budget cycle.
Noriega said lowering the sanitary sewer would allow gravity flow rather than adding a lift station and that the lowering work would be a future phase dependent on budget approval. Trustee questions focused on whether the relocation would require added permitting and on coordination with NICOR and other utilities; the board approved the engineering supplement by roll call.
