Wise County adopts FY2026/27 budget as advertised after vote

The Wise County Board of Supervisors voted June 25 to adopt the FY2026/27 county budget as advertised after a substitute motion by Chairman J. H. Rivers. The substitute motion to approve the budget as advertised was seconded by Clarence S. “Rusty” Peters Jr. and carried.
Interim County Administrator Karen T. Mullins told the board that the additional funding request to guarantee school resource officers and preserve employee salary supplements would cost "approximately $500,000" and could be addressed in a revised budget if funding becomes available. Supervisor Fred Luntsford asked that the board revisit that funding request after the advertised budget was approved; Chairman Rivers accepted that request. The minutes record the substitute motion carried and the budget was approved as presented.
