Council members clarify walking-path work tied to street contract; staff says path is compacted road base, not sidewalk

Following discussion of the street maintenance award, council members asked staff to describe the walking‑path work referenced in the contract.
Brandon explained the path will be compacted road base added to the pavement edge—for example, on the east side of 925 East and the north side of 7375 South. “It’s just along the edge of the road...we're adding road base along the edge of the pavement so that the kids have a place to walk,” Brandon said. He added the city is not installing curb, gutter, or concrete sidewalk in this work.
Council members asked about snow removal and finish; staff said the path will not be plowed and suggested neighborhood residents may need to assist with snow clearing. Staff also said the material would be compacted to create a firmer walking surface. Work scheduling will be coordinated with the awarded contractor.
