Trustees voted to award the village-entrance pillars contract to Heartland for $6,883.68 after reviewing two competing estimates and discussing materials, footing, and visibility. Renita, who presented the bids and material samples, said the Heartland columns use larger 22x22 blocks with a tumbled-stone look while Nelson's proposal used 20x20 VersaLock blocks and required rebar for 5-foot tall columns.
"Heartland's blocks are bigger," Renita said, describing the difference in construction and why the Heartland proposal would not require embedded rebar the same way Nelson's would. Trustees debated visibility from the parking-lot approach and agreed to temporarily stake the proposed pillar locations so residents could confirm sightlines before final installation. After a motion to accept the Heartland bid was made and seconded, the board called the question and the motion passed with ayes recorded.
Trustees also reviewed two local sign vendors and sample layouts for the mounted sign to sit between the pillars. After design discussion — including whether to include decorative circular elements at the top and bottom — the board approved proceeding with printed 36x48-inch sign faces and set a not-to-exceed amount of $600 to allow limited production leeway.
