Skokie 68 launches yearlong strategic-planning process with community surveys planned in January

Superintendent Dr. Grens opened the board meeting by recognizing School Board Members Day and announcing the district’s strategic-planning kickoff with consultant Studer, which will shape goals across equity, teaching and learning, facilities and safety, social-emotional learning and communication.
“We kicked off strategic planning,” Grens said, describing a process that will include a steering committee, focus groups and a community survey expected to roll out on January 5. The superintendent said the current plan lists five goal areas and 41 objectives, and the new plan will likely streamline objectives while retaining many priorities.
Grens said Studer will remain engaged through implementation and coaching next year: “They don’t just help build it and then dip out. They stick around. They coach us.” Staff and board members named to the steering and implementation teams include Jeremy and Emily from the board and district administrators and partners such as Richard Kwong from the Skokie Public Library.
The district will present a formal strategic-plan action item to the board after community feedback is gathered; staff said the process is intended to be iterative and ongoing rather than a one-time checklist.
