On April 16 the Caroline Town Board unanimously adopted Resolution 90 urging state officials to uphold the original 2024 regulatory timelines of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). Councilmember Jonathan Bates moved the resolution and Supervisor Mark Witmer seconded; the board recorded the motion carried with all members voting aye.
The resolution states the board's view that delaying CLCPA regulatory implementation would increase long-term economic and environmental costs, raise operational costs for residents and businesses, and risk creating an implementation 'cliff' that could jeopardize the 2050 emissions reduction target. The resolution directs that copies be sent to the Governor and named state legislative leaders.
