Town Attorney Thomas Benavidez briefed the council Jan. 8 on upcoming election procedures for Huachuca City, including which seats will be on the Nov. 3, 2026 general-election ballot and relevant filing rules.
Benavidez said three council seats (incumbents Butterworth, Trate and Thompson) and the mayor's office (incumbent Wallace) will be on the ballot. He explained the town does not hold a primary for these nonpartisan offices and noted voter registration closes Oct. 5, 2026; early voting begins under ARS §16-542(C). He also advised that incumbents whose terms do not expire this year must resign before running for a different seat.
Council discussed advertising and timing for candidate information; Mayor Wallace said he would like advertising to begin now. No formal action beyond the informational briefing was recorded.
