Several residents used the council's public-comment period Jan. 8 to urge action on a crosswalk near the Circle K on Gonzales Boulevard.
Lonnie Brock told the council the crosswalk is dangerous because the lights are not visible to drivers. Tami Ackerson described an incident in which her daughter was struck while using the crosswalk properly and asked for a safer installation. No formal resolution or immediate funding was assigned at the meeting; Mayor Johann Wallace said the issue has attracted local media attention and that a meeting with the Arizona Department of Transportation is expected soon.
Councilmembers discussed the problem and requested staff pursue meetings with ADOT to explore safer crossing options. The council did not vote on a specific improvement during this session.
