Huachuca City backs collaboration with Cochise County on animal shelter and authorizes code changes

The Huachuca City Council on Jan. 8 authorized town staff to prepare amendments to animal-related code sections and approved a letter expressing support for a proposed Cochise County animal shelter to be located in Huachuca City.
Chief Berry explained that deleting obsolete code provisions would make collaboration with the county easier if a shelter is placed in town. Town Manager Suzanne Harvey recommended a formal letter of support; the council authorized submission of that letter and approved drafting the ordinance changes by motion, passed unanimously.
Council did not adopt final ordinance language at the meeting. Staff indicated the changes aim to remove provisions no longer relevant to shelter operations and to clarify responsibilities between the town and county. No timeline for ordinance adoption was set during the meeting.
