A meeting participant from Washington Elementary reported the school has 36 STEM ambassadors who meet weekly to explore a different piece of technology and complete a related activity. "So at Washington Elementary, we have 36 members," the participant said, describing weekly topics, classroom application and an emphasis on promoting leadership.
The participant and student speakers said ambassadors practice facilitating lessons in club meetings and then help lead those lessons with 1st'3rd graders; the lessons are aligned to what students learn in science or CKLA so they complement regular instruction. Organizers and student ambassadors said the format strengthens leadership, peer teaching and students' ability to persevere through challenges.
