A Stevens Point Area Public School District staff member said the district created a "STEM into the future" grant after Century Insurance Foundation began offering innovative grants to area schools about four years ago. "About 4 years ago, Century Insurance Foundation came to the public and offered up innovative grants to school districts in the area," the staff member said, noting the district has run the STEM grant across all nine elementary schools for the last three years.
District officials described the grant as providing materials and program support that make hands-on STEM activities possible in classrooms and extracurricular clubs. The staff member said the program aims to integrate STEM into regular lessons rather than treat it as a separate subject, so activities align with existing science or CKLA instruction to build creativity and critical thinking. Speakers thanked Century Insurance Foundation for its multi-year support and said they plan to continue implementing STEM programming.
