Oneida County panel rejects scale bids, opts to remove old ramps and rebid

Chair Ted Cushing and committee members voted to reject the current bids for the vehicle weight scale project and rebid after determining the existing ramps and foundation should be removed.
Solid Waste Director Lisa Bauknecht presented three bids: Capitol Scale for $92,910, Badger Scale for $200,748, and BSI for $146,098. The bids assumed retaining the current ramps and foundation; Bauknecht and staff said those structures would have to pass inspection before reuse. Rather than pay about $2,500 for an inspection that could still require removal, staff proposed having the Oneida County Highway Department remove the existing ramps and foundation for $2,689 and start with a new foundation. Kyle Timmons said it "would be best to remove them and start fresh." The committee agreed and approved a motion to reject the current bids and rebid the project, directing staff to advertise the new solicitation for an additional two weeks.
The committee said rebidding with removal of the existing structures should still allow the scale to be installed this year. The decision follows the committee's effort to reduce contingencies and potential inspection costs that could raise the overall price of the project.
