The Village of Green Island ratified authorization for the mayor to sign an easement with National Grid to support a secondary power upgrade at the Saratoga Street pump station. DPW staff explained the pump site has had repeated failures; a DEC inspection highlighted the need for a backup feed so grinder pumps do not stop during outages.
"So we've been working, for quite some time now on upgrading the, Saratoga Street pump station," Maggie said, explaining that National Grid must relocate a pole into the village right-of-way and that Verizon’s line will be transferred as part of the work. Maggie told the board the village paid a fee just under $4,500 so the utility would accept and schedule the work order.
The board voted to ratify the authorization; staff said the physical work should take about a week once scheduled and that the new pumps would be more efficient and should reduce overtime and emergency call-outs. No member requested delaying the ratification; the motion carried unanimously.
