Beaver Valley Water District reports mapping and engineering work; manganese and iron issues under review

At the Jan. 8 Town of Catlin meeting the Beaver Valley Water District reported multiple operational and engineering tasks underway. Staff replaced a heater in the chemical room after a pipe froze and repaired a service line leak under a house on State Route 414; Dennis Ross made the repair. District representatives and Supervisor LaVerne Phelps are attending W20 training in Cortland, NY. The district received and paid a bill from the Town of Corning for 2025 work and confirmed payment to engineering firm Barton & Loguidice, DPC.
Barton & Loguidice briefed the board on their current scope: review of record documents from the Town of Catlin, updates to the mapping system, development of a hydraulic model, and assembling a preliminary engineering report. The firm said it was coordinating with equipment vendors and evaluating potential alternatives to address manganese and moderately elevated iron levels in the well; the minutes record that recommendations would be developed for the town.
