Eckstead explained the SUP would allow an assisted-living operator to provide 24/7 staff care and that the use would be limited to this operator and six residents. Applicant Marcel Huffman told council, "When we purchased the home, it had been previously renovated. It has 6 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms," and confirmed the owner would apply for necessary permits; staff said inspections would verify required fire-rating and at least one accessible restroom.
Council members asked about distinctions between group homes and community homes and noted the city would require building permits and inspections to ensure safety and code compliance. The motion to approve with staff recommendations passed 7-0.
Next steps: if the SUP is approved, building inspections and permit approvals must be completed before use as an assisted-living facility.
