Indianapolis EMS reports mobile-health contacts, special-events coverage and 46% drop in ambulance/ED use among navigation callers

Dr. Dan O’Donnell, representing Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services, updated trustees on multiple EMS initiatives, workforce training and recognition.
O’Donnell said the mobile integrated health team has made ‘‘more than 400 contacts this year’’ and that the special-events team has covered ‘‘248 special events.’’ He reported that the crosswalk-to-care nurse navigation embedded in 911 logged ‘‘just over 1,200 calls, and we've seen of those calls, we see about a 46% decrease in ambulance and emergency department utilization.’’ He also noted a recruiter academy preparing 24 EMTs and paramedics and recognized AJ White with a Clear Vision Award.
