Board hears bid recommendations for capital project; abatement and construction mobilization planned

Administrators presented letters of recommendation following a public bid opening and said low bidders had been interviewed. Gary (S5) and other staff recommended awarding contracts to the vetted low bidders and noted a roughly $3,000,000 construction contingency (about 18% of the construction cost) that will be reduced by the cost of the abatement contract.
S5 said the district will re‑bid the abatement of an old rubber floor containing mercury to get more competitive pricing and that in the near term contractors will finalize submittals, set up staging and prepare temporary barriers. "We are scheduled to start April 1," S8 said; administrators emphasized safety and ongoing internal/external communications to keep staff and the public informed as construction proceeds.
The board agreed to move toward formal contract approvals later in the meeting; administrators said they will bring contract documents forward based on the team's recommendations.
